TOSTAN
29th December 2021 - Donation of USD266
19th January 2022 - Donation of USD150

Our first donation will allow a woman to participate in the Community Empowerment Program for 3 years, while our second donation will help another woman to participate for 2 years

Relying heavily on community feedback, Tostan and a team of Senegalese cultural specialists developed a new type of development program, the Community Empowerment Program (CEP). This program respectfully engaged communities by working in their own languages and using traditional methods of learning. It facilitated community ownership over the development process, allowing communities to fulfill their own potential.
Tostan — which means ‘breakthrough’ in the Wolof language — was created in 1991. For 30 years, Tostan’s original concepts have developed into a leading model for community-led change; a model that has now been implemented in 22 languages across eight African countries, is shared internationally with activists and practitioners through our training seminars, and is supported at the international, national, and grassroots levels.

Girls’ education is the starting point for securing the rights of women and girls globally. Investing in girls’ education is also one of the most powerful ways of tackling the climate emergency. It leads to healthier, better educated families; unlocks educated women’s leadership for sustainable prosperity and reduced carbon emissions; and improves adaptation and resilience to climate shocks in the world’s most marginalized communities. We know this not just from research data, but from more than 25 years of experience in Africa.

As well as paying school fees and other essentials, such as uniforms, books, and sanitary protection, your gift helps beyond the classroom, supporting young graduates with the training and resources they need to become economically independent leaders in their communities.

Over 90% of every dollar CAMFED spends goes to their programs.
